Cell Quick Callouts

Important! The WebCell is a 3.3V device. At no time should 5V be applied to any pin!

1. Insert a blank microSD card in the slot.

The card may be any capacity, up to 32GB. It should be formatted but completely blank.

2. Provide power to the WebCell.

Connect a regulated 3.3V source capable of 250mA to pin 30. The ground connection can be made to pins 1, 14, 23, 28, or 34.

3. Observe the indicators.

When power is applied, the green power LED on the WebCell should light steadily.

Since the network cable has not yet been attached, the red LED on the WebCell should be flashing. The rapid flashing (2 times per second) would indicate a network connection problem.

4. Plug in the network cable.

When the WebCell is connected to the network, the red LED should stop flashing. If it continues to flash but at slower rate, this indicates the WebCell is connected to the local network but has been unable reach an external time server to set its clock.

5. Observe microSD card indicator.

Remove the microSD card. Note that the red LED now blinks once per second (0.75 second on, 0.25 second off). This is the indicator that the microSD card is removed.

6. Download and install the CellScript Simulator on your Windows PC.

The installation file can be found at the Downloads link at http://www.patersontech.com/. The CellScript Simulator should start automatically when installation is complete. If not, go to the Start menu and start it. You may be prompted by your firewall to allow the CellScript Simulator to have network access.

7. Open the File Manager.

Go to the View menu and select the Cell Files... command. The File Manger will open and display files and folders in the project.

8. Copy files to the WebCell.

Right-click on the root folder in the left pane, and select Copy All To Cell.

9. Display the WebCell home web page.

Go to the Tools menu of the CellScript Simulator and select the Find Cell command. The home page of the WebCell, which has just been copied to the microSD card, should be displayed in your web browser.

10. Configure the WebCell.

Click on the link on the WebCell home page to start the configuration steps. These steps let you set up time zone and change network parameters if necessary.

11. Explore!

Use the navigation links to explore the web pages now on the microSD card. These include:

Demonstration pages, which show how to use some of the WebCell hardware features.

Home automation pages, which allow you to control some INSTEON home automation devices. You must connect the WebCell to an INSTEON modem to utilize these pages.
